What is a cylinder head?

The function of the cylinder head of a car engine is to close the upper part of the cylinder, and together with the upper part of the piston to form the combustion chamber. cylinder head structure is complex, usually using foot iron or aluminum alloy material manufacturing, for certain engines, cylinder head structure varies, but there are many common points. cylinder head and the cylinder body combined, the level of the pit is part of the combustion chamber, in the cylinder head to the processing of valve seat.

What is a cylinder head?

The cylinder head, also known as the upper half of the engine, is located on the cylinder bed. In an overhead valve (OHV) engine, it contains the main valve mechanisms, such as valves, valve springs, and valves. The tappet/rocker arm and, in the case of an overhead camshaft (SOHC or DOHC) engine, also the camshaft, cam ring, etc. This also includes the combustion chamber. The spark plugs are also installed here. The cylinder head and the cylinder bed are firmly connected to each other by a cylinder mattress located in between.

The cylinder head can be considered an important key to engine performance, as the flow rate of the intake and exhaust ports and the coordination with the camshaft strongly influence volumetric efficiency. The shape of the combustion chamber determines the engine's knock resistance characteristics, and its volume is also closely related to the compression ratio.

What is the function of the cylinder head?

The cylinder head is attached to the top of the body with bolts and forms the upper part of the diesel engine, which is why it is commonly referred to as the cylinder head. Its functions are as follows

l. The top of the cylinder liner is closed to form a closed working chamber of the cylinder together with the piston and the cylinder liner.

2. Push the cylinder liner to the proper position of the housing to allow the piston to move normally.

3. install various accessories of diesel engines, such as fuel injection, intake, and exhaust valve devices, cylinder start valve, dynamometer valve, safety valve, and valve rocker arm device, etc.

4. an arrangement of intake and exhaust ports, cooling water channels, etc. In the cylinder head of a small high-speed engine, there is also a swirl chamber or a pre-combustion chamber. Therefore, there are many cavities and channels in the cylinder head, which makes the structure and shape more complicated.

What are the requirements for cylinder head production?

The cylinder head is an important part with a high load and complex structure. It must have sufficient strength and good heat resistance; at the same time, the material should also be easy to cast.

The structure of the cylinder head should have sufficient rigidity. The shape of the contact surface must be in accordance with the requirements of the drawing. The arch is sufficiently large, smooth, and complete. The pressure area and the various cavities should meet the respective pressure test requirements, and the size and shape of each valve seat hole should meet the accuracy requirements. In particular, each valve seat hole and valve plug surface should have a good sealing condition. The material for cylinder heads with a cylinder diameter of less than 400 mm is usually gray cast iron such as HT400; cylinder heads with a diameter of more than 400 mm are usually made of nodular cast iron such as QT60-2. Many large low-speed diesel engines use cast steel cylinder heads or combined cast iron and steel cylinder heads.

FHZL is also the first Chinese company to export 3D sand printers to the overseas market. It can also meet customers' requirements for different casting methods by simply selecting the appropriate parameters.
